Starting a business on zero budget

Updated: Nov 6, 2020

Everyone dreams of becoming rich at an early stage of

their life and some at least hope to just be able to retire at some point in their life. For some people it is rather easier than it is for many, depending on one's financial background, financial literacy, mentorship among other factors. Not only that but also, some areas of the world have vast opportunities whilst others simply don't. It is always different with everyone. For instance, we get people who had always had opportunities, the necessary training and enough resources to make it big in life, but for some reason they have chosen to blow it all up thinking it will come back at the snap of their fingers. Well sorry if you're one of those, now you will have to work as hard as the rest of us to get your lie back on track. Anyways, if you're one of the unlucky ones yet passionate about making it big, here's a few things you will need to follow, that have proven to work for some people.

QUALITIES NEEDED

|Vision |Passion |Motion

For one to want to be rich rich so badly, they’ll have to have had a dream of a better life sometime in the future. However, as nice as it may be, dreams alone can never get anyone anywhere, if you don't get to the next steps they'll end up being terrible nightmares that may turn out to be too late to wake up from. On the other hand, if you envision your dream, you will come up with an effective action plan that will see you grow gradually into whatever you see yourself being in the future. I go to a Pentecostal church that believes in spiritual, financial and social growth and our driving theme of all time is Vision with motion. We believe that nothing can come by just dreaming, but one needs to act upon that dream and pray about it in order to make it a reality. Now if you are not passionate about your dream, you simply have to forget about it and try again until you figure out what exactly will you enjoy doing whilst it gives you a benefit in life. If you force yourself into something simply because it puts food on the table you might end up hating it and doing badly at it so much so you won't even be able to get anything out of it.

|Discipline |persistence |perseverance |enthusiasm |hard work

Now that you have figured out what it is that you’re passionate about and have gotten started, you need a lot of self-discipline on your endeavors, and you need to work as hard as you would if you were employed by someone else. Set targets, plan ahead, strategize, etc. the going may get tough as you may be even dependent on this small business that you have started, but the key is to not give up. Be persistent even on negotiations or when people discourage you with what may seem to be hardcore facts, you just need to be perseverant. Always wake that enthusiasm within you and learn something new at every opportunity. Starting off like this is not for lazy bums or spoiled brats, this is the game for the tough. You need to be willing to work thrice as hard as someone who started with a budget. Remember you are, the lawyer, the accountant, the sales rep, the PR, the CEO and every other person you need to be.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

Get a part time job:- In this 21st century we're living in, nothing is for free and no one will hand you alms simply because you're going to be a big someone someday. Remember there are still bills to be paid, starting from yourself sustenance, utility bills, rents and so forth. So in order for you to survive you will need a source of income. I would recommend getting a part time job. Something that will keep you alive whilst you still have time to build up your small business. A full time job can be a hindrance in this type of arrangement as you will need time to run around registering your business, getting supplies for whatever you need to produce, building marketing strategies, etc. Alternatively you will need to save money before quitting your full time job so that it can be easier when you finally leave and start up your own initiative. Tasks like registering your business, opening a bank account, building a website and professional email, buying stock or equipment as well as transport to run around setting up everything will certainly need money and that money is something you can save up on.

Once you have started you must consider taking free courses on whatever skills you might need in order to make life easier for you, remember the phrase "knowledge is power" It would also be good to find yourself a mentor. Someone who is doing great in the same industry that you're aspiring to be would be the best option to go with. If your business involves something that would be legally binding at some point, consider looking for legal advice online or at local court houses. There are several affordable or even free options available in most countries. Another very important person to seek advice from would be an accountant. Seek the advice of someone who knows about book keeping, annual returns and all business finances. Alternatively, you can read online content from different site, which can be a lot of work but you’re the one who is in a situation so you will need to keep your eyes on the goal!

ADVICE FROM SELF EXPERIENCE

DON'T get a loan: Getting a loan when starting a small business that you are not a hundred percent sure about can be a nightmare. I would advise keeping your day job for a while, whilst you save for a start. or if that seems too slow for you, it's better to get a part time job that can help you pay for your basic expenses as you struggle slowly in your business. Imagine having to go through all the trouble of filling out papers, finding a guarantor and all that other fuss only to find out that you were not successful in your business and you still owe all that money. I have learnt the hard way and wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

so in conclusion. Keep in mind that starting a small business is possible. however, it can be extremely difficult and you will have to work thrice as hard as everyone else whilst following all the necessary steps to get there. One most important thing to do is to pray and give. I'll post an article on how these can help in starting and growing a business. See you on the next article
